Just wondering if anyone here has tried to install a HDD larger than 6TB in a 41xx series NVR. I realize the spec sheet mentions a max of 6TB, but experience tells me that spec sheets often mention the largest currently available size at the time of writing and then don’t get updated when larger drives and/or newer firmwares to support them become available. Case in point, my fathers Amcrest cam accepts and properly formats a 256 GB SD card while the spec sheet says it maxes out at 128 GB.
I’d like to replace the drive in my NVR with the largest one possible when the time comes that the drive needs replacing.

I have four NV4108E-HS each running an 8TB WD Purple (WD81PURZ) since Q1 2019 without any issues.
Four NV4108E-HS and a mix of 24 cameras (IP4M-1028, IP4M-1051, and IP3M-HX2)

Since having made this post, Amcrest has updated the spec on the Amazon listings for the NV4xxx NVRs to supporting 10TB drives. Now I'm wondering if anyone has tried installing a 12TB or greater single drive.

Since you made your post there are other 41xx devices released that has higher HDD support the 41xx-HS still supports 6tb anything over the supported size while it might work it isn't supported and could fail either causing the HDD to fail faster then expected or the Amcrest Hardware..

The 4116E-HS and any in that model format below is 6tb
The 4116E-A2 is a new AI supported model and says it is 10tb for that any within the A2
Don't buy a 10tb with expectations that it will work in a HS model.

So there are some things that people for the most part don't know or understand. While I am not saying that is the case for you however in General a Software that Amcrest can run from Dahua isn't always a smart path to make. That might be because with the Dahua line of hardware there is different type of CPU or more ram/rom or something that is different then the Amcrest Counter part.
Also could be open air issues. Looking at 2 devices I own from the same line one being Amcrest and the other Dahua the Dahua has a larger case, and while it is thinner in height the systems both have the same fan however the Dahua also has a CPU fan where the Amcrest don't So it might be that because of the some of the difference in size, cpu cooler the HDD size could be larger in the Dahua then it could in the Amcrest.
Then I have some other Amcrest NVR's that has a Fan port however there is no fan and that might have been because it was designed for a different case then one it was installed in and there is enough open area in that case it don't need a fan.
Then Temperature I am going to guess has to do with size of HDD does heat more then a smaller one of the same case size. I know that my 4tb runs cooler then my 6tb and the 6 is in larger 3.5 footprint then the 4.. So if someone took a NVR with specs above and used it with 10tb without fail in the basement and then moved to a different location like Attic or Static Air Shed where the Temps could get over triple digits there might be some issues with device fail or hdd fail.
Your DH specs above are out of date why not using the 5.1 from 7-13-2021? is there a reason you prefer the 3-19-2020 FW?

I tried the 5.1 firmware from 7-13-2021. It killed motion detection on all my ONVIF cams. For that reason, I prefer the 3-19-2020 FW. I've installed a 12TB HDD tonight. It was physically shorter than the 4TB that it replaced. Full capacity detected.

Aww ok. Well I use mine with IVS so my 4216E-AI can be used for other things. Having 2 channels recording full time and the other 6 only with IVS events so the system works well with the HDD installed Don't need to store footage longer then I do already.
If you setup your system for Overwrite I would be interested in what your NVR does after it is full. All of my NVR's being Dahua or Amcrest all seem to fail at some point where my Amcrest and Dahua DVR's I have had running in some places for years without a format and the Overwrite has worked without fail.

So in 2021 there was no log in from me and after some time I will admit it was months if not even a year since someone had logged in the HDD 6tb had filled and kept going offline at the time when I logged back in Feb it had not recorded for long time as it kept rebooting and my guess was to try and change the hdd back to working one However it would just boot and say no hdd. Now I make sure all Remote NVR's are logged into before the HDD is able to fill to max and Format it if I don't need to save any footage first..

As mentioned in previous posts I too wondered if my NV4108E-HS running Build: 2020-05-21 would support a drive larger than 6TB. I inquired in a different area and was told I should be good up to 10TB. I purchased a purple 10TB drive and replaced the 6TB I had. Full capacity was detected and its been working completely fine for over a year. Two days ago I needed to look back in my recordings for something and discovered my NVR hadn't recorded anything from 7:30 - 17:39 on that day. I had viewed my cameras multiple times remotely during that day so the NVR was obviously working but I found the following entry in its log. Does anyone have any idea what might have happened? It resumed normal 24hr recording operation at 17:39 that evening.
