nv4108e-hs displays only 2 of 4 cameras at a time
Re: nv4108e-hs displays only 2 of 4 cameras at a time
A related question; I notice that in the "View 4" two of the four cameras revert to VGA while the other two are 4K, and it isnt always the same cameras. Im guessing the VGA ones represent the substream instead of the main stream. I havent found a way to force the NVR to see all in 4K so the mystery is still an (undocumented) mystery. Thoughts?

Notice that in the following link it says your NVR can only Playback 2-Channel @ 8MP.patric wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 7:43 pm A related question; I notice that in the "View 4" two of the four cameras revert to VGA while the other two are 4K, and it isnt always the same cameras. https://www.amazon.com/Amcrest-NV4108E- ... 520&sr=8-1
From link:
Amcrest Model: NV4108E-HS
NVR FEATURES :
Extraordinary Quality: Supports 8-Channel 1080p/3MP/4MP/5MP Resolution.
Records 8-Channels @ 1080p/3MP/4MP/5MP/6MP/8MP & Playback 8-Channel @ 1080p/4-Channel 3MP/4MP/3-Channel 5MP/2-Channel 6MP/2-Channel 8MP.
Re: nv4108e-hs displays only 2 of 4 cameras at a time
That seems a slightly deceptive way of saying you can only Play back 2-Channel @ 8MP. That, and not realizing that watching live video on the console's HDMI output was considered "playback."
That also answers my original question a bit more: I wasnt able to see more than two cameras before because the 8-channel NVR only supports two cameras (suprise suprise) and you have to enable VGA sub-streams to see more than 2 cameras. Thats pretty bad.
Is there a way of selecting which cameras will be the VGA Vs. 8MP? It might soften the disappointment a bit.
...and Id still like to be able to get audio from at least one camera in View 4.
Thanks for the insight. Ive been learning more here than I have been with the documentation.

See if this thread applies to your NVR audio, which says G711 audio is required for NVR.

Have you tried Amcrest Surveillance Pro with your NVR? It may work with your cams the way you want, especially with a fast PC.
__________
Just for reference, the more powerful NV5208E amazon page says:
View up to 4CH @ 4K @ 30fps simultaneously and the NVR will dial the remaining channels to 1080P @ 30fps.

Re: nv4108e-hs displays only 2 of 4 cameras at a time
Maybe if there were an exchange program; my nv4108 is only 2 months old and may go back in the box anyway.
Havent tried Surveillance Pro, but if the hardware wont support more than two 4K cameras im not sure what additional software would change.

Patric wrore:
"Havent tried Surveillance Pro, but if the hardware wont support more than two 4K cameras im not sure what additional software would change."
My understanding:
There is not as much limit on number of devices recording because NVR just receives compressed files from IP camera and stores it. If a NVR device is added to Surveillance Pro or View Pro, the camera liveview or recording would arrive in compressed format and decoded for display at the receiving software. Decoding is what primarily uses up cycles in the NVR, etc. There's no way huge uncompressed raw video streams would normally be sent between network devices like a phone, PC, NVR, or IP camera.

Re: nv4108e-hs displays only 2 of 4 cameras at a time
So is the bottleneck an underpowered processor or an overworked codec?
...and does the NV5208E really really really support 30fps at 4K?

Re: nv4108e-hs displays only 2 of 4 cameras at a time
I believe it would depend on whether decoding is done in software or hardware.
The NVR specs say 4K@30fps, but your IP8M-T2499E only supports up to 15fps. Amcrest IP8M-2597E supports up to 30fps and has bigger sensor providing better low light capability.
Re: nv4108e-hs displays only 2 of 4 cameras at a time
Im understanding that Surveillance Pro would be in lieu of a physical NVR.
One of my requirements is a local monitor fed from the HDMI output of an NVR. From the broken english in the Surveillance Pro manual I gather you would add cameras like you would the NVR setup, which might be useful when I am away from the property but I wouldnt have a fixed indoor monitor on the premises.
Would it be worthwhile to pursue an exchange of the NV4108E for the later model NVR? Having four cameras at 4K would suit my needs just fine.
