Non-Amcrest NVR with Amcrest Cameras?

Post by lmolter »

I have an old 8-camera POE NVR from Amcrest. I have to use IE to review the cameras and recordings, but I would rather use Chrome. And... rather than take my chances that an updated NVR will actually be more up-to-date, can I use <gasp> another manufacturer's NVR with my Amcrest POE cameras? Plus, it sounds like the latest firmware update is a disaster.

You could use Amcrest Surveillance Pro on PC or Amcrest View Pro on phone to review cameras or recordings. They should work with Amcrest NVR.

@lmolter Welcome to the Forum..

As jack7 has mentioned you can use your PC and ASP to access your NVR.. Sadly only camera or NVR's that are going to work with Chrome atm is if they have been updated with 2019 or 2020 FW that is JS related.. There was and for some still able to DL Amcrest Chrome app and if it was able to still be downloaded for someone that has never used it that might be an option as well.. There is something that I have noticed that I don't really like to be honest. Working with my Current computer when I bring up the Chrome App for Amcrest and I have not used the app for a while however it has a Green V in the current clicked window and I find that distracting However it does let me use my NVR that has 2018 FW loaded on it without using IE and Personally I would just rather use the NVR or IE for best results...

Now about a Different NVR? IT is hard to say.. There are so many out there today and sure if your cameras are ONVIF you can use other ONVIF NVR to record data from your cameras that you own.. However keep in mind that there are some issues where there might be Motion Detection issues when Cross platform integration and this would cause the person to have to Full Time Record rather then have the ability to Motion only Record so do keep that in mind.. Personally I would just keep the NVR that you own with the Cameras and run NVR UI or ASP to access your system as jack7 said...

Here is a Picture of what the Amcrest App for Chrome looks like with my 2116-HS with 4 of my cameras you can see any combo for the picture and keep down on space I only did 4 seeing the screen shot from having 16 open was to large in file size.. This also shows the Green line though the channel you are currently clicked on that I don't really like but is workable

@Revo2Maxx Yeah, the screenshot of the Chrome extension looks like the IE extension. I'm ok with the IE version, but It won't work with Edge -- keeps asking for the plug-in. Old IE is the only browser that works for me, and I'm not crazy about having to use outdated apps. And if I try the Chrome version, it also asks for the plug-in, and if downloaded and installed, it still asks. Can I (or should I) do a FW update to an older NVR?

Well it is really hard to say.. However any of the NVR's that have the Update to a 2019 or a 2020 FW will have the Chrome ability and will no longer work with IE... However with that in mind you have to keep in mind that others have issues with the NVR after doing an update.. Some of the issues might be Feature Related where some of them are Related to Function... If your new to the NVR an Update might be ok however if you are someone that has had your NVR for a while and understand the features and feel of it you might feel something is missing after the update.. Sadly only NVR of mine that has the ability for an UPDATE i am not going to update because of this and the one I wish would have an update has me IRK'd at the moment so I reset back to factory and removed it from active service for the time being.. If my 4108h was able to be updated I would my 2116-HS at this time I will not update and use the NVR UI or access via IE and have no issues with doing so.. Even doing a Factory Restore on my Gaming PC I have pinned IE to my Taskbar and my Amcrest View Chrome app works however I Prefer IE to the App...
Be Safe.
