No Snapshots

Post by sparkgap »

I have 6 cameras connected to my NVR.
I have them set to send an email with attachment when motion is detected.
Everything was working fine until a week ago.
All 6 cameras still send emails, but 2 of them will not send attachments.
Not sure how this is possible because the email settings are done in the NVR system-wide.
So it seems like it should be all or nothing.
Can snapshot settings be done individually for each camera?
Don't understand why this just suddenly started happening.
I did a search on the forum and found a post from Revo from last year where he had a similar problem with no snapshots and resetting the NVR to factory settings fixed it. Any updates on this ?

What is important is that you look at your settings in your camera to make sure they were not turned off by accident some how.. If your NVR is POE would need to access your NVR Ip address, then go to camera, then click on the e next to the camera you want to check. Keep in mind that if you are doing this on Chrome you will want to click a different camera first because chrome has 10080 marked as bad port and won't work.. So best to use IE mode in Edge...

Then once you log in and click the e, log in to the camera, then go to event type you are working with motion, or IVS.. Make sure there is a Snapshot enabled there.. So in the picture below if I was to uncheck the bottom Snapshot for this event then I would get an email but not snapshot if I wanted. So need to make sure on the event type you are working with that snapshot is checked and also should if it has option for number at least one of them checked even though the NVR will only send 1 unless the NVR has the option as most don't and only sends 1.. Also what NVR are you working with? Does it send a start and stop email or just 1 email normally with the image. As I have found some strange things happens at times with my new E1 NVR where it sends the End with the image and not the start.. Seeing I setup my email client to reject the end emails normally there has been a few emails I got as start without the image, But looking in the server logs I can see the image was sent in the end email..

Thanks for the reply. What app is this that you are using to view the camera info? Amcrest IP Config?
I have an Amcrest NV-4108E-A2 NVR. I have it connected to my router with an ethernet cable. I have the VGA output connected to my Mac computer. To open the NVR I just turn it on and set the video input on my monitor and log in. So you can change the individual camera settings through the NVR?

In the past (before I had an NVR) I had all my cameras (they are POE) connected to POE switches and I viewed the individual cameras using the Amcrest IP Config tool. However, about a year ago, none of my cameras would send emails anymore. I believe my ISP (Comcast) was blocking this. You were the one who suggested getting an NVR and it's been working flawlessly until recently. A few weeks ago my cameras would not send emails again. Turned out that in the Email configuration window my "sender" email address had suddenly changed. It mysteriously dropped the "@comcast.net" from the address. No idea how that could have happened. I suspect something got modified when I was playing around with the Amcrest View Pro app on my phone. I corrected the email address and everything started working normally again until last week when 2 of the cameras stopped sending snapshots. It's almost like something got corrupted in software.

Also, I tried to open the NVR using the Amcrest IP Config tool. It saw the IP address of the NVR but when I tried to open it, it asked for a password that was NOT the username/password I have set up in the NVR. Appeared that I needed to have an Amcrest account to log in. Is this normal?

So I opened the NVR and went to the "Alarm" tab then selected "Motion Detection" (See screenshot below).
In this window you can select each camera and the number of Snapshots you want.
Does selecting Picture Storage have any effect on whether the Snapshots are attached to the email?
Anyway, the software does not seem to be working correctly. All 6 of my cameras have Picture Storage and Snapshots selected, yet 2 of the cameras still will not show attachments.

Another thing I noticed in this window is that it doesn't seem to save the number of snapshots correctly. Let's say I set camera 1 to 3 Snapshots and then the next camera to 5 Snapshots, and hit Apply after each selection. Then I scroll through the cameras. When I get back to camera 1, it is now set for 5 Snapshots instead of 3. In other words it doesn't seem to let you have individual settings for number of Snapshots. Appears to be a bug. Any ideas ? Thanks !

Would love to see the picture of your NVRs event page that shows 1-5 images? as I don't see any picture on your last post..

Somewhere to look. Go into the GUI or log into the NVRs WebUI however you get to your info for your NVR and go to Storage and Record. On that page make sure that your NVR has snapshots all turned on. If any of the channels are not in the ON position then there will be no snapshot for that channel.

Outside of that all other parts for your snapshots would be at the camera level. So even with the NVR in the on position if there was not snapshot enabled in the camera then there would be none for the NVR either..

Would need to log into the cameras that are not sending images and confirm they are setup..

With the NVR being the only link of the image to be sent from, I really wish the NVR would log that it is infact sending an email. Then you would know if it is another issue..

Reason I say this. I have a different AI NVR and a few of thier cameras that end up getting my email server locked out.. So then I removed that after finding out what was causing it and put in place some server level logging. Come to find out that even my NVR was sending emails and my email server was rejecting the emails. SO I had to go into my email that I don't normally log in to and found that while I was getting some rejection emails out of the 4000 that didn't send only 130 to 160 were being bounced.. Bounced meaning sent back to my sending server.. At first I thought they were being rejected on my Recieving server but it wasn't until looking though my email server logs that I found the server was just holding them back..

OK so I opened the NVR and went to Storage and made sure the Snapshots were on. Hit "Apply" for each one to be sure. Did a walk-by on all the cameras. Same situation. 2 cameras still not sending.
Then I disconnected the 2 cameras and connected them to my POE switch. Opened Amcrest View Pro. I could see both cameras IP addresses and Port numbers. But when I click on the "E", it won't open anything. I'm on a Mac. Tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Nothing will open the cameras. Is there another app that will open these cameras ?

Ok let me try this little different..

Cameras that are connected to the POE NVR over the POE Ports when you click the e will open a port for the camera using a virtual host.. So lets say for one of my systems..

10.0.0.203 is my 4216E-Ai and I want to connect to one of my 4mp Ai cameras WebUI.. I go log into my NVRs IP address in your case using Chrome, I then click on the Management top left, Then click on Camera *Or for some Devices* then in the bottom area the connected cameras will load and some will say port 1-x for the channels number and others will have things like 37777 and if it is a Port1 that is connected to the first channel of the NVR.. Now because you are using Chrome and Chrome is not happy with 10080 then you will need to pick the e for a camera you don't want to use first.. This will give you a new tab that opens in my case 10.0.0.203:10080 and will get an error.. Now go back to the NVRs tab and click the camera you want to use in my case ch8 on port8 and it will load 10.0.0.203:10081 and the page will open to the login for the camera. However if you happen to click on the e of a camera connected on normal IP range lets say in my case my wifi connected 941 that is at 10.0.0.174 when I click that e the IP address for that camera will open in chrome and should already be able to access that camera from the local just by typing the ip address in the browser.. However not everyone knows or remembers that IP addresses for their cameras and using the NVR device page is way to do so..

So here is my guess. If you are using a camera on POE NVR and was setup for Static. That ip address of the camera would be something like 10.1.1.xxx and your LAN address is most likely on something like 192.168.x.xxx so if you were to move the camera to the Switch and not change the address to your LAN range then you would not be able to connect to the camera.. Now for me I use a Window machine and I have many different ip address setup in my network and this lets me access all my cameras on my normal Switch even if it comes from one of my many POE NVRs just by typing the cameras IP address.. 1 down side to this. I can't access any camera over app that isn't on my real LAN range.. But I can using my Brower local..

So for you, i would put the camera back on your NVR, Then log in using the NVRs IP, Then click on your camera area click the e for camera you don't want to configure, then e for the one you do again it will load the NVRs IP with a port that should come up as 10081 for the second camara you click then seeing you have 2 cameras you want to work with you can click the other camera that you do want to work on it seeing that would be 3rd camera will load in 10082 port..

OK so I connected all the cameras back to the NVR. I opened IP Config Tool and it showed me the IP address of the NVR was 192.168.1.45 on Port 80
I clicked the "E" and it opened the login window on Firefox. I clicked on Management, then Camera. It showed me a list of the 6 cameras. The IP address ranged from 10.1.1.65 to 10.1.1.70

Then I clicked on the "E" for the first "defective" camera. Put in my login info and clicked Setup. Clicked Event and sure enough, no snapshots were selected. But strangely, it did not have Send Email selected either. Both of the bad cameras were like this. All the "good" cameras had everything selected correctly. I fixed the settings and saved them. Then I went outside and did a walk-by. Again, I got an email from both cameras but NO snapshots ! I tried restarting the NVR. Same thing.

This is really strange. It seems like everything is set correctly but those 2 cameras still won't attach snapshots.

So in the Camera it don't matter if the Email being sent for an event is set because it isn't sending the email from the camera but from the NVR... So I would log back in cameras and confirm that the email option is enabled..

Also while you are there, Go to the camera tab on the camera, then click on video, then snapshot, then change the type to event it is at the top in the camera area first comes out as general for full time and we are looking for event.. Can you confirm what the settings in there is?
