Need Help with Alarms

Post by 258pearl »

Here is my current hardware:

NVR: NV4108E-2TB, Build: V4.000.00AC001.0, Build Date: 09-15-2021
Cameras: 4 x IP8M-T2599E and 2 x IP8M-T2669E-AI with latest Firmware

When I do playback, get data for General recording (Green), Motion (Yellow) and Blue (IVR), but for the life of me I cannot get the Alarm (Red) bars to show up.

Under Camera/Encode, I would like to setup my Type: General (Green) recording for 1fps, and Type: Alarm (Red) for 5fps.

I've tried motion detection, but it's not reliable (too many false alarms). I'm currently using IVS - Tripwires, and they work good, but there is not an option in the Type Dropdown for IVS, only General/Motion/Alarm.

Is there a way to configure the IVS Alerts to be Alarms?

I guess I just don't understand how to make the Alarm Red bars show up.

I've scheduled Alarms to be recorded 24x7

Hello and Welcome to the forum

There can be a way to setup IVS as Alarm. However I am not sure that is the option you really want?

A couple of things in your setup that I thought I would bring to light before I try and tackle your threads Answers. First unless you have a Huge HDD you might want to turn off the Green aka Fulltime aka General recording on all days for all Channels. What I would do is then under your Record Mode on your Sub Channels of the cameras you want to record full time (I mainly do on cameras with Mic's) to manual recording. This will then setup your Full time recording on a lower FPS, Bit rate and smaller Encode type to full time recording that can be found in playback mode by changing the channel you want to watch to S1 or S2 to playback your cameras..

So about your searches you can do in the normal playback area however the thing about the AI is you have the ability to look at just AI playback from the AI menu of the NVR. So when you go to main menu, rather then choosing the playback, click on the AI tab. This on my AI NVR at least has the area of what AI channels I have or what AI cameras I have and I can choose to playback only IVS events. Or if it face then it would be searching for that format depending on how I setup my AI at the time..

So I don't know about the A2 NVR family. I know that my 4216E-AI NVR at least has that ability that when I click on AI, it will let me choose what channel or list all events in the whole area of AI to play back only events from things like IVS only. Also don't know if your NVR has it I am going to guess that it might but if you are on the NVR's GUI, right click in that menu it could say Live Mode or Preview Mode and moving mouse over that could bring up Normal/General or AI mode. If in AI Mode for me anyway I get now a bar on the right and others could be across the bottom, anyway that area will show all events in AI. IT will only show the last 10 to 20 events but is the fastest way for me to playback something that was picked up in my Tripwire or Intrusion events. Or if I had setup for Face it will show the Face with details of the event like Glasses, mask, beard and so on. There will be an edit area so you can choose what you want displayed most cases. This is on my AI NVR and may or may not be on the A2 NVR..

https://support.amcrest.com/hc/en-us/ar ... V4108E-A2-

If you look at Page 60 it will show you what I am talking about on the IVS AI part and how it will list only AI events.

I know that on one of my Firmware releases I had no pictures and now I do so that is a good thing. The pictures are great for me because I can scroll to one that looks like the event I am looking for without having to scroll them all or know the time for the event. For me one of my Events for IVS is on my Street and say if something happen with a Red Truck I can just scroll though the pictures until I see a red truck. So just keep in mind of you do use the feature to double look at them after a FW update because if it is not longer working as it should letting the Support team know so it can get another FW release to fix the issue..

@Revo2Maxx Thank you so much for getting back to me!

I'm aware of the IVR Search feature. I use it a lot, and I do have a huge HDD (10TB). I'm able to store 3 weeks worth of data, with all 6 cams at UHD @ 5 fps.

But, what I'm really trying to do is figure out a way to turn on alarms so I can get 1fps general, and 5 fps for IVS/Alarm.

Since my only recording type options are:

General/Motion/Alarm

... and I gave up on Motion Detection because I get too many false alarms, even with AI Human filtering.

I'm only using IVS/Tripwires and they work great. I get zero false alarms, and it works flawlessly.

I would like to setup as follows:

General: 1fps
Alarm: 5 fps

But for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get the Alarm to go off. I even enabled Video Tampering, but the yellow motion detection bars show up in the timeline instead of the red alarm bars.

It would be great if I could figure out how to get the red alarm bars to show up in my timeline.

I'm confused why the Video Tampering Alarm is showing up as "Motion Detection" in the timeline (Yellow instead of Red)

I don't know I can't say why your not getting alarms. Might be either not entered as you wanted them recorded or maybe there was an issue with the A2 that it don't record. I can't say as I don't have one on me for testing..

However I have some other AI NVR's that I can work with and see what I can get to come up. While I again don't have the A2 so my results might be different then yours.. Right now I am doing a Factory Reset to my NVR and I will setup my 1046EW and add another Rule for testing. because I don't want to keep this way it is best to add a rule that I don't normally use and can removed it once I am done..

Wow! The red bars show up for you!

What type of events are the red alarms for you?

Yeah so that is why I wanted to do some more testing.. So after some deep testing and this includes Formatting my HDD, Reset the NVR back to Factory, and setup of 2 cameras I had 3 events come up again with Alarms however I thought I better remove the Audio Alerts and as soon as I did that with all other settings setup the way I had it before the audio alarms the Alarms no longer came..

So I changed to a camera with SMD to see if I could get my AI NVR to pick up and save alarms for SMD and it didn't do that either..

So it seems that only way to get alarms saved is not a good way for saving IVS or SMD alerts.

So in truth you said your able to get Alerts on IVS and it works well? That is the reason behind getting a AI DVR/NVR is so you can have AI cameras setup without giving false alerts.

So I am not 100% sure why your trying to get Alarms to work. I know you said has to do with Alarm Encoding however I wonder why you want so little FPS anyway?

You do understand that if you setup an event to have 2 fps or 5fps that you will only get let say with 5 only 5 different frames within each second. On an event that has 10 seconds of footage that would only be 50 frames that you would be able to mess with to try and get the best pictured frame. Lets look at a Lic Plate, If you only were to have 5 frames and in that let say 3 second of a Car turning around in your drive way you would have only 15 frames to get a good clear plate. However with me, using a 8mp camera that has 15 frames a second I leave it at 15 and in that 3 second time I would have 45 frames to get the best picture for a clear plate. Now my Lower MP cameras that I get 30 FPS I change main down to 22 fps and Sub down to 18fps. And on my Main driveway I have a 4mp AI camera that I have setup for 22fps, I have 66 fames in a 3 second events to try and get the clearest picture and yes it takes longer then 3 seconds to turn in my Driveway just using that as for instance.

258pearl,
This should be one way to get alarm red bars.  You need to have an Amcrest camera that has external input/output ports.  Your cameras likely do not.

@Revo2Maxx
Thank you so much for all the testing you did. Wow!

If I understand you correctly, you did a factory reset, and reformatted your Hard drive, and afterwards, alarms/red bars were only showing up for Audio Alarms, and when you turned Audio Alarms off, all alarms/red bars stopped showing up in your timeline, correct? This is what I'm experiencing.

I was about to factory reset and reformat, but I think you just saved me a lot of work.

You are correct, I do have my cameras setup like I want using Tripwires, and I get zero false alarms.

My original goal to save space was to reduce the General Encoding from 5fps to 1fps, and have the Alarm go to 5fps, but now I realize that would not be enough video clips. After your feedback, a better setting may be 3-4 fps for General Type, then 10-15fps for Alarm.

... but since it doesn't appear we can map an IVS alert to an alarm, it doesn't seem like it will work.
