Invalid format?

Hi can someone please help me out. When I plug my DVR in to the hdmi on my tv. The screen lights up and has the xvr logo but then it black back out and says invalid format. But it used to work perfectly fine hooked up just the same way to the same tv. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks in advance to anyone that gets back to me. Also the model number of my DVR is AMDV8M8-H5

Hello and welcome to the Forum

So couple of things can or needs to happen to fix this.. 1 if the system is on and you know the password use the Web browser and log into the WebUI at the DVR's IP address.. Then you will want to click on Setup, Display in there you will want to change the Format.. It could be something like 1920x1080 one would be 1024 and the other would be 720..

Another thing you can do if it was same tv maybe it is in a different HDMI port that was setup for a different format you could go into the Tv menu and make sure it was setup for 1080

The next thing to do and most cases is less desired is grabbing a DSUB device like a old Computer monitor plug in to the DVR's Dsub port turn on DVR and make adjustment from the DVR's GUI either way you will need to make it so your device works on the setting your Dvr is set at..

1 last thing to do if your model has a Reset button in side the case, you could do a Factory Reset an this would change the setting most times to either 1024 or 720 and the tv wouldn't have an issue displaying that .. Sadly that isn't a fun task and most of the devices now days don't have a reset button on the 5 Amcrest recorders I own I only have 2 that have a Reset button and on my 4k NVR someone would have to know how to use it to make it work because just pressing the button does nothing lol
