dvr quit
Re: dvr quit
Great work glad to hear your system is good, thanks Pogo for getting them sorted.

Re: dvr quit
Well done. Now you can run 20 cameras! LOL
You'll like the DV8M8. Not the newest AI box with all that 'smart' stuff, but more than capable to do just about anything else -- including adding newer IP cameras from just about any decent brand out there. Lots of cool features and capabilities. It's main drawback is lacking higher frame rate support for 4K cameras, but it will still handle them with certain performance trade-offs.
Any questions, just ask.

Picture of one of the features of the 5108-i3 5108-AI, 7108-AI and others of the like. This is IVS with AI mode where it will let you get a preview of the Events that are seen on the right. Great for looking at something that just happened and get to view without having to use playback. Also can do Face Detection and Recognition. I don't work for Amcrest and my goal was to try and help anyway I can. I offered advice reply 2 and 3 about how to trouble shoot power supply and that I didn't think your DVR was dead. My goal was to save you time and money and worse case needing an upgrade is to future proof a DVR that can help cut down on False alarms getting loads of emails or push for alerts of rain, snow and other things that are of no interest.
So with your new 8m8 DVR my guess is that you might have got the Kit I see they had with 8 cameras with 1tb hDD plus the cameras say they are 4mp with 30fps. However your 4m8 DVR only supported h.264 format so first thing I would do is make sure that the Support H.265 is turned on and look at your camera encoding page. double check if you are using 30fps and if you were great I run all my 30fps cameras at 22fps for main stream and 18 for sub stream. again at the top of Encoding page it will say if it is working in h.265 or h.264, With h.265 and on all my DVRs that support it I have them running it because it will save you a TON of space on your HDD for extra record time.. NVRs don't work as well on H.265 so on my NVRs I turn the Auto h.265 off and only turn on the IP cameras that support it. Like Pogo said the 8m8 also supports IP channels and might look at adding a Doorbell or other Wifi camera if you don't already. Just mentioning the NVR part so you know adding in a IP camera that is not very happy with H.265 it may make you think the camera is bad when in reality it is Encoding issue on your IP channel if you setup your DVR to Auto H.265..
I know you know your system, But one of the largest over looked thing when setting up a new / used DVR/NVR is making simple change to the Schedule for recording and snapshots.. If not changed and even lets say someone that has 8ch DVR with only 6 cameras connected if not changed it will record full time on other 2 channels even though there is no camera taking up space. So for me, Clicking on Main Menu, Storage, and Schedule, then setting all days and all cameras change to not record full time. Unless you want it to, I don't on all channels and most times I only record full time on the Sub Channels letting the events work on the Main.. next also in the Schedule area at the top is Snapshots, Click that and all channels and all days and remove snapshot full time.. if you don't it will save to your HDD a snapshot every second and will fill your HDD in very short order.. Making it only Motion is best..
Something also to keep in mind if you had some channels on your old DVR that you had the IR turned off on and your cameras don't have an OSD you will want to remember to make that change in this DVR same way as you were able to in your old DVR.. Keep in mind that there are some cameras like my older TVI 2mp 10x zoom cameras with heaters that do have OSD and accessing that OSD you can use the UTC of your new DVR to access it without having to go to your camera and use a toggle that some of my older before UTC was offered you had to use Toggle or setup RS-485 for that. Now with your 8m8 the DVR offers, UTC to access OSD, Audio and video with the cables you already own..
1 last thing to note.. If you look for some upgrades to your DVR and want to use a built in Mic, You will want to make sure that the Camera you are looking at is CVI format with audio. A Hikvision camera aka TVI with audio will not work with Audio in your Amcrest DVR it has to be a CVI dominant camera even if it supports 4-1 tech. For instance, my 5mp Amcrest camera with Mic on my Hikvsion 5-1 DVR will not have Audio even if I set the camera to work in CVI or TVI because the camera audio is CVI dominant and the Hikvision DVR is TVI dominant.. So wanted to offer that before you find out the hard way..
As Pogo has said Any other questions just ask. He has the 8m8, I do have 8m16 along with couple older DVRs and couple newer ones from Amcrest..
One last thing, Not many people know this. Again to help cut down on HDD space, to setup to record full time on Sub channel go to your main menu, storage, This time click on Record Mode, 1 make sure your snapshots are on, in some devices they are off by default, However where it says Sub Channel click the one you want to record full time to manual and leave the main channels on Auto.. This will setup your system to record your channel full time on Sub channel even with the Schedule setup for full time turned off. Manual mode is Full time recording this is also in Main but again for best storage Sub Channel recording on a 1tb HDD will give you a longer record time. Then your events you can find in search for all the motion. Keep in mind to play back Sub Channel you will need to when you are in your Playback on the right where you see the different cameras in the list you want to play back if you want to watch the full time click that Channel lets say Channel 2 will be in Full Sub, Then Check that box and far right click the M to change to S and it will now show the full time recoding for your camera...
Enjoy.
