Does NVR4116e poe switch provide Internet access to camera which is connected to POE port?

Post by zhjliu »

I have connected 4116e to my router and connected a foscam camera to one of the POE ports. I can see the video through amcrest view pro app without problem.

But my foscam camera seemed lose connection to Internet, and I cannot access the foscam camera through foscam app anymore.

Does the camera connected to POE port has the access to internet? I assumed so, but it seems it is not the case. Can someone please confirm that?

Thanks,

Hello and welcome to the Forum...

So in a since the NVR is a Firewall to the outside world.. Not all but some offer the ability to access Ip cameras though the Normal network over the WAN port of the NVR rather then POE... So that might be an option that you want to use for your connection of your IP camera...

Hmm, if the NVR is a firewall, does it provide NAT for internet access? I can see a private subnet is maintained for the NVR POE switch. But is the camera connected to POE port able to access internet like device behind regular firewall?
Also I would appreciate if the NVR can provide port forwarding like a firewall router.

Sorry I said Firewall... I guess I should have said Private network...

Most times when people have a POE NVR they will have a POE Injector off to the side of the system that is connected to the normal network for making Camera Changes. This just stays there and waiting for someone to plug in the POE camera. The network then is able to access the camera either with a System that has same IP segment or setup with Multi network IPs within your system. This way when the camera is connected it will be accessible via IE or Chrome... Then once the setup is worked out they are removed and put back into the NVR.. THere are other ways but some work some don't as pointed out here is the easiest. Sadly the idea of a POE being more costly then non because of the ability to hide the camera is not the reason it is because there is less cost to the owner installer from having to worry about having power every location there is a camera... 1 wire no power no problem with POE...

However in some not all but in some cases there is the ability to have a camera on your network side and still have the NVR pick itup and record just as it would connected to the POE port.

OK,so with 4116e, basically it is not a regular router and does not provide NAT and port forward for the connected cameras, right?
So if I connect the camera (especially 3rd party camera) to the NVR, basically I cannot use their original management tools to manage them?

That would be correct unless you were to work out a connection to a switch on the camera side of the NVR and there are some that do this method. Some can get it to work some can't it isn't something that isn't supported but can be done
