Directly access POE IP Camera with 10.1.1.x

Post by stephenp »

Hi there,

I tried searching as I'm sure this has been asked before but I kept getting a forum error that my terms were too common...

I have an NV5232E-16P POE NVR. I have several Amcrest POE IP cameras. They are all set up and working correctly on the NVR but I would like to access them directly to get access to the MicroSD card and other settings. Within the WEB SERVICE interface I see the cameras listed but of course they are assigned addresses in the 10.1.1.x range rather than the 192.168.x.x. In the past I have been able to access them using Firefox or other browsers (doing weird things like enabling port ranges) but I can't seem to get any browser to work in accessing them now.

Years ago I used iVMS to access an older NVR and had to enable "virtual Network." I can't seem to get iVMS-4200 working with Amcrest NVR (which is probably by design) and I don't see any other "Virtual Network" options in the Amcrest Surveilance Pro software.

So, how do I connect to the cameras directly?

Thank you!

Hello and Welcome to the Forum

I would use Edge if your able as I don't know what type of computer your using and ASP works for Mac and Windows I think so I am not sure from your post..

IF you have Windows and don't have ability to use IE, Then use IE tab in Edge, Bring up Edge, Click on the 3 dots over in the top right area, Then click settings, Then choose Default Browser (Your not looking to set it as one you just need that tab. If it asks say NO) Then in the bottom area is a box that says Internet Explorer Mode, Click the + or Add, Then type in the IP address of your NVR. Then open another tab or just type in your NVR's IP in the browser, Then it will open it in a Win Under the normal Edge window with a Button that says it would work better in Edge just ignore that lol.. Finish logging into your NVR. Then click on Setting, Camera, then go to the area that shows your cameras and they should have a e next to them click on the one that has the 10.1.1.xxx IP that you want to access, It will bring up a new tab with your NVR's IP and a new port id normally 10080. It should also be in IE tab mode as well. Log in and you should have access to your cameras..

Thank you, Revo,

I've gone through the steps but when clicking the IE icon within the Web UI I get the camera ip but no port number (not sure if that means anything or if it needs to access the camera first then show a post (I was expecting to see 10.1.1.22:10080 or something). Here are my screen shots:

Am I missing a checkmark somewhere or doing something wrong?

Thank you again for your time on this, I appreciate it!

Hmmm So, When you log into the NVR's IP address. In my case that IP was 10.0.0.225, I then go to my cameras, I click on the e that is next to the IP address that is connected to a camera that is on my POE NVR's Port in my case Port 5. I get a IP of 10.0.0.225:10080, Then if say I was on a different NVR that has more PORT connected cameras, If I have more then 1 I want to connect to, when I click on the one for port 3 it would come with the IP of 10.0.0.222:10080 and then I want to make a connection to one on that NVR's PORT 8 I would get 10.0.0.222:10081 unless I only clicked on the camera e for port 8..

If you click on a camera that has a normal IP like inmy case you can see in the picture other cameras with 10.0.0.xxx range it will open a new tab but will be under that IP..

So this leaves me to an issue that might have come up. I do have a 4216E-AI NVR that I can access both my local IP and my Switch IP though my local network connection. Meaning my 4216E-AI NVR has 16 POE Ports, I can connect cameras that are at 10.1.1.xxx though the 10.0.0.223 IP. So that is why I changed my POE NVR's switch IP's so I don't have to worry about getting a IP Conflict if I move a camera from a PORT to my Switch to make some adjustments. I find it easier then using the NVR's IP for connection.

So if that isn't the issue this is what should happen...

1, your IP your connecting with is 192.168.30.87 and when you do so and then click the e to the right for the port your trying to load. Your NVR should try to start at 192.168.30.87:10080 or some other port number no the IP address for the camera. You have to click the e on the right to bring up the Virtual Host Port adding address to your NVR or it will not connect.

Also in your Settings, I would look under Network to see if there is a Virtual Host button that you will need to Toggle on? IF there is one turn it on. Might need to look if there isn't one however because with that being in the Ultra Class of NVR's it might not be on the Main Network page where the ones I have with the OPTION to turn on or off it is under my normal Network area in settings...

Well, I knew what you were saying but I wasn't getting any closer to getting it to work. As a last ditch effort I factory reset the nvr and the cameras suddenly let me access them via the Web Interface through the NVR page. I did a restore using my nvr settings backup and I was again unable to access the cameras. They record and can be played back but clicking the Internet Explorer button just brought up the ip address with no port and no connection. I was able to get access again by restoring only the "Cameras" setting to "Default" rather than all settings.

But, I didn't know about the "default browser" trick with Edge. That allows me to use Edge (I'm in Windows 10) rather than installing a bunch of other browsers like I had in the past.

Thank you for all of your help on this. I wish I could tell you exactly what was wrong and how I fixed it, but it came down to the factory restore that "fixed" it.

Thank you, again!

UPDATE. This could be coincidence but it stopped working the moment I accessed the NVR using Amcrest Surveillance Pro app. I had to reset the cameras again. I think I'll just avoid the app incase that's the cause. I miss iVMS4xxx... I've struggled getting just short clips downloaded using Amcrest Surveillance Pro and seem to have fewer problems accessing the feeds just using the web interface.

Just wanted to update you incase this is the cause and someone else runs into this down the road.
