Amcrest NVR5216 and Genbolt camera not recording based on motion

Post by bg2009 »

Hello all:
So I've had this Amcrest NVR5216 for a couple years
Was never really able to get the thing to work for me.
So rather than dropping the money on a Ubiquity system with locked in cameras, I figured I'd give this one more kick at the cat to see if the Amcrest was usable.

I have the NVR setup with 4 cameras
1 Amcrest, and 3 off brands (Genbolt, Axis, and I forget what the other is)
All cameras connect to the NVR fine.
Can view all cameras through the NVR
All cameras will record to the NVR CONSTANTLY.
BUT, only the Amcrest camera will record base on MOTION.

I tried Amcrest support and after 2 calls and lots of messing with very basic settings, they just came back and said NVR is not compatible with non-Amcrest cameras.

I hate being shot down like that.

If I'm trying to do something that really won't work, tell me so.
But if someone has Amcrest NVR's recording based on motion with non-Amcrest cameras, I'd like to know if there is a magic secret I've not tried?

I'm specifically experimenting with a Genbolt GB213V PTZ outdoor camera.
Have it set to Onvif

Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hello and Welcome to the Forum

I hate to say it but it comes down to the camera and the type of motion it has. I have a large mix match of IP cameras going to many different NVRs from 5232E-16P, 4216E-AI, 4116E-HS, 4108E-HS, 4108E-A2 and a few others.

While the 52xx series is in the Ultra line of NVRs there is nothing that can make them accept the 3rd party cameras if the camera don't offer the same type motion detection that the Amcrest line of recorders use.

Personally don't know the Genbolt line, I know it is a Value line of cameras just not anything that caught my eye of something I thought I should try.

I guess maybe before calling it a total loss, I would make sure that you are using the 8080 port that it says is prt of the Onvif setup for your camera if it isn't, I am guessing that it has to be to even connect?

On all my cameras only ones that I own that are able to detect motion out side of the Amcrest/Dahua lines is my Hikvision OEM brand, Most of my other non Amcrest cameras that don't record using AI or Motion I have it setup to record full time on my Sub Channel of the NVR and I use the cameras built in Micro SD and cameras alerts to then playback any footage that I need if ever there is a need. If I need the full size video then I will use the cameras recorded footage if there is detail that I need that isn't found using the Amcrest Sub Channel playback footage.

There is a very fine line of 3rd party cameras that Amcrest has a list of in the manual or on the website with verbiage of not supporting many 3rd party cameras..

I would say that maybe Blue Iris is the way to go for your data capture needs if going to use many different cameras. I mean I have a few that Bi don't want to connect with but looking at your cameras page for Docs it has Blue Iris page for how to setup in Bi..
Be Safe.
