Updating Firmware and Resetting your Hardware

Post by Revo2Maxx »

Ok well there is somewhat of a Debate if your Camera or NVR should be Reset after a FW update.. This could be same type of FW like 2019 and newer FW or older FW to newer FW and after a few different camera Updates I thought I would write about my Findings...

1st camera was a FW from 2019 to 2020 FW and it is same JS type FW.. 6k lines of data in Config back up before the update after the update I had over 7k lines of data.. this without doing a Reset.. I then did a Rest and sure enough the lines of data went back down to 6k lines and doing a Reset cleaned out all the JUNK CODE that was different between the 2 FW packages...

2nd Camera was my 841EW that I was not going to do a FW update on because I liked how it was working and all the things seemed to work the way I wanted it however I thought ok Old FW is a 2.420 like the normal older older FW for the normal 841... The odd thing is that it now has a 2.620 package.. Before doing the Update just over 6k lines, after FW update without doing a Reset I had 8841 lines that is a lot of JUNK after doing a Factory Reset the config backup file is 6377..

Why this is important? Well I can tell you that there are some people out there that have some issues with the Cameras from time to time.. Things not working the way you want them to or menus being gone or even something just not looking feeling or acting right... While I don't know what all the JUNK code is I can tell you that if we thought about things and how a Script or Coding works.. It is Logical that if there is Rogue code or Junk code that spoils the cameras ability to function just right.. It is important to do Resets after any FW update same Code type or older Code type... I know that some people have the Cameras up in a Tree or over the sea not so easy to access or get to and I understand that having to setup a camera that was a Pain to setup all the other times before it was installed in it's current location.. Doing a Reset might be all that is needed to keep your life a happy one...

Don't have to do a Factory Reset at the Camera always after a FW update but needs to be Reset at the WebUI side always after a FW update.. Log into your camera, then go to Setup, then go to the area under System, then Default Settings, Under there don't pick the save some info like Network and things you need to pick the Option of Doing a Full Factory Reset.. This will then auto after a Reset change the IP in your browser to 192.168.1.108 or something like that, You will have to log into the camera with admin admin again first time to setup again... But after doing that the camera will be much happier with you.. Also most times if your system is setup as a DHCP your camera will not work at the new IP it inputs because your camera will have a different IP from your Router.. Use IP Tools from Amcrest or Dahua has 3 different versions listed that I have used each to see what the different GUI and feel of the menu.. I have one that I use and Prefer... In there you can use Change IP and it will prompt you to to change the Password... After doing the IP change from what my Router handed out to what I wanted my camera to be and changed my password I went to Chrome and was able to log in and change my Image 180 and Mirrored so it was not facing wrong way...

Yes I know working with IP camera is a little easier then working with Wifi cameras.. The truth is once you find the way to setup Wifi camera over Cat5 life will be much easier each time you setup one.. On a Network with a Computer and the Wifi camera on a Cat5 I can setup the camera to be able to access the Wifi network within less then 2 min after a Reset of the Camera...

So this brings me to another thing.. Having a Network with different types of Cameras can make things harder for the person to Setup.. You get used to looking at a menu for 1 camera over and over it will be really easy to get from 1 place to another just remember methods are the same,

Log into camera, go to Setup, Then Network, TCP/IP, click on the box and change to Wifi, Then Change IP to a Number you want in your Networks Range, Save, Then one of the parts that is forgot about is Setup of the Wifi SSID so under network and might even be in that TCP/IP menu area or on the left under Network should be one that would Say Wifi, When you go in that menu area a list of SSID should load into the area. IF you don't see yours you might be out of range or others is stronger, YOu can hit the Refresh or even do a Search.. Click on the SSID you want to use, then it will ask you for the Password of the device, Once you give the password of the SSID of the wifi press connect and you should see a message that your camera has connected to the SSID. Always remember to apply or Save when needed. Now you can unplug and camera and it will Set using the Wifi and you can go to setup your NVR or DVR if you have them going there if not then setup the camera to your normal way of use and your set...

It is Important 100% to do a Factory Reset after every FW Update to clear our the extra data that might make working with your device difficult
Be Safe.
