Outdoor Camera

Post by zplugger »

Do the Turret cameras have more bug problems the a Dome camera. I know you get some night time glare with the dorm but is it better for bugs? Hope to get a lot of suggestions on this.
Thanks

To be honest there is no one style better for anyone over another...

Location location LOCATION is all that really matters.. One of the biggest issues I have heard is IR Reflection back to the Dome Camera... I have not had that issue. All cameras with IR built into them have issues when it comes time for Bugs at night and rain or Snow... To be honest the Best camera that I have that Rejects some of this I said some and that is the little dome style camera that is more like an Eyeball camera in my mind.. I hate them they are not easy to setup because you put this ball into a socket put the cover over it and then secure it with a Collar that never wants to screw on, or isn't easy to get on when your working in the rain... However the best Camera for night time viewing is a camera that has the ability to work in Color at night... I live in an area that I might have a Clear night 45 days of the year. The rest is Plagued with Rain, Snow, Mist, Fog or bugs.... Any camera in IR Mode that uses it own IR LEDs will be plagued with some type of issues at night. 2 Options. run in Color at night or Buy IR Blasters and set them up away from your camera area but able to light the area viewed. This is so the Bugs are going to fly around the IR and not the camera...

Most times Domes are best because they offer the Best Vandal protection. At times issues with IR is because the Rubber or foam gasket between the glass and the lens are missing broken or isn't a reflection from the glass be TBH the environment around it...

One of the Best Cameras is the Long and tested Bullets. However they are easy to knock out of view, or broken off mounting area.

Most of my cameras used to run IR at night but because of my Location I now run 90% in Color Even IR Blasters in Fog, Mist or hazy night just don't look good in B/W Color can't get through the fog however if you have an issue there are some cameras that can offer Thermal Images. Have 2 myself. Sadly they Detect people, cars and animals but will not ID someone.. Also deeper the fog harder it is to detect as well. So it won't always work as you hope...

The easiest Camera to set up is the PTZ Domes and the Vandal Dome

Well I thought I would show some View at night.. So i made a Video and I thought I would share.. Sadly the rain was out more then you could see the little floaters like you can right now wow... The IR cameras almost has a Shield in front of the lens now it is so bad... I wish I would have taken the video now lol... However it is not steady all the time and now showing rain again lol...

Anyway I show a few cameras and some I have not shown before.. However I have some that I won't show for security reasons... I even in this video changed the color to B/W for the effect of motion on one of my Driveway cameras...

So I have tried to find a way to record off my Computer say off my screen however I don't know how people Screen Capture and a video or 2 I don't see any reason to have to buy software for that.. So this video is taken from my Phone off 2 of the 4 screens.

Anyway you can find that Video here... youtube.com/watch?v=__Cg65B6AFg

It is just to show why I say Color is better at night for me. Again things might not be the same for everyone.. B/W might be the way you or another person has to go because the lack of light at night. My back yard has IR Blasters and 4 other b/w cameras and thermals. No or very little light so was only option. To be Honest Don't waste money on Thermal Cameras. I won't buy anymore. I have some of my cameras that will invert the picture or gives the idea that it is thermal but isn't by any means.. Negative looking is better term for it...
