Old Vs. New Firmware Compared

Post by patric »

Id like to see a list of older Vs. newer firmware and what they change. More to the point, Id like to see which software adds functionality and which breaks it.
For example, What firmware version must I roll back to in order to restore Web UI compatibility to Firefox or Internet Explorer?

I have several of the 8-Megapixel IP8M-T2499EB. About half of them work with one browser and the other half work with another. Some want a plug-in installed that wont install, and even then there are multiple plug-ins with different filesizes... none of this is in any documentation I can find.

Just updating everything to the latest version might sound like the easy answer but not if it breaks functionality or enables a broken feature that isnt even in the Beta stage yet.

Is there a chart or breakdown somewhere that compares these firmware versions?

Sadly if you are on a Chrome Only FW then your on JS and once your on JS firmware it is said that there is no going back.. If your cameras are within Return age you can contact them and ask them to Change out your cameras with ones with the Old FW on it... Then do the RMA and Exchange the camera for ones with the FW you want on it... Sadly the thing is if there is no FW listed then there is non to go back to.. If your FW is from 2019 or 2020 it would be JS and to get ones with out the JS FW installed it would have to come from Amcrest...

Sadly I am not sure why but I have not seen a FW Data sheet since like 2018 or maybe 2017.. Even then the cameras with them seem to have all new FW without data given

If the hardware is the same I guess I dont understand why you cant do an "update" with a previous known working firmware version... like one that doesnt break web browser compatibility.
Is it that the older firmware is no longer available for download?

It has to do with the Older type FW is a different Format and is written different then the new JS format... When the JS one gets flashed back to the Older FW it can; however not always but it can Brick the camera.. It might as I am not the R/D department or anyone that wrote the FW for these.. But it might be something to do with the way the system loads.. Once it is setup to load on the NEW FW there might be parts that are different and not in the normal one and don't flush out so it might be when it starts up and goes down the line for running the hardware it gets to that point that didn't flush and Crashes, or stalls and then from then on while the camera can show power it might go into a Boot loop because it wasn't able to boot right and keeps cycling... They are or have been working on trying to get something setup so people can get back to older FW... Not sure of any progress at this time as I have not heard anything since it was last brought up.. Person I chat with at Amcrest is going to be out of office until monday so I won't know anything new about that until then if he knows more that is.. There have been a few people that have tried and Bricked the Cameras then there have been a few that it was ok... I have myself gone back on 2 cameras and both have made it back however the issue that I was trying to get away from in the JS FW is still present in the camera even after I flashed back.. So while I didn't achieve anything other then having a camera that I used to have on 2020 FW now back in 2017 FW and the same problem followed.. First camera didn't have any issue and still don't however the one that did have the issue are still there.. Such a Pain...
