Hi there,
I ordered a couple of the IPM-723B cameras for the home property... Connected them directly to the Verizon modem/router downstairs. I had no issues connecting them and setting them up. Had all 3 up and running inside my room perfectly. Already installed 1 outside and it's been great!
I was debating connecting them to my Netgear Extender/Router (Nighthawk EX7000), which is in my room allows me to hard-line a few devices like my PC, PS4 Console, and a PC downstairs that has always been hard-lined and did not have a wireless adapter. Fortunately we ran network cables 20+ years ago in this house and they came in clutch for a few areas. The Nighthawk really helps come the hard-lined devices, I usually connect everything directly to the router but if I am outside my wireless devices like my phone will pickup the signal from the Extender, works great in the front/backyard in certain areas.
The 1 camera installed has worked great, it has a 64GB SD card inside and I am not sure how much data it can hold, it's only been 5-6 days since I installed it. We had the power go out randomly the other morning and when the camera rebooted it had a new IP... so I realized I had to login to a different IP address to access the camera via Internet Explorer.. a little annoying. I believe the Amcrest View Pro app automatically recognizes these changes and works pretty well, I haven't had to change anything on my phone's app. However, I did have to add the device manually with the old IP address to a family member's phone, I have not checked with them if it is still working.. hopefully it still is since I haven't heard any complaints yet.
Is it worth it to set them up with Static IP addresses, or should I just leave them on DHCP? I do not mind having to login to a different address each time I am at home on my PC, but I don't want my family members to have to deal with a new IP address each time the power possibly goes out. I did setup the one camera with a Static IP and it seems to be working just fine, it took the Amcrest Surveillance Pro app on my PC a bit to recognize the change, but it did. I unfortunately have seen some stuttering/freezing on occasion. The signal strength should not be an issue, it receives full bars.. but can be known to drop up and down on occasion.
I received the "Limited Resources" error a few times since setting it to Static, I am not sure if that was why.. I am really considering switching the device to my Nighthawk router which offers both 2.4 & 5Ghz for WiFi. I feel the camera would get a much more stable signal, but everything just seems easier being connected directly to the ISP's router/modem's WiFi signal/network.
Sorry for the lengthy post, very new to these devices, but they are very nice. I was hoping to possibly setup a "Traffic counter" if possible, I am not sure if this model of camera supports that. With covid-19 there are more people walking by than ever, and we've had some cars broken into in the past. This was one of the main reasons I got the 1st camera, once I saw how well it operated I ordered 2 more.. one will most likely be going to another family member's house who needs one. I really like this device and hope to get everything out of it as possible. I really hope the "People counter" or traffic statistics can be utilized.
Any advise would be great... still new to all of this. I may try connecting it to my router later today just to see how it reacts, if it works off the Nighthawk router/extender I may just leave them connected to that rather than the ISP's modem/router. Both offer great signals so it doesn't really matter I suppose... thanks!
New IPM-723B Working Great but a few issues...
Re: New IPM-723B Working Great but a few issues...
That camera only supports 2.4GHz, so it won't benefit from the 5GHz in the extender. I would bet that your connection will be less stable despite the stronger signal you may receive. Putting a bandwidth intensive camera on an extender is not recommended. I've been down this road and decided that too many wireless hops just drops too many packets, causing lost or unstable connections.
The better method of adding wifi to a weak location is using a wireless router as an access point. I do this with a R6700v2 that is hard-wired with CAT6 ethernet to an R6300v2 at the other end of the house, which is hard-wired to my cable-modem. The R6700v2 (access point) serves six wireless cameras flawlessly @ 1080p30. I don't remember which brand extender I had previously, but it couldn't relay one single camera reliably. Now it seems like I keep adding new cameras to the AP, and they all just work, always... never needing reboots. The extra work to route an ethernet cable was well worth it.
And yes, definitely set static IP's. This is best done by using DHCP reservation (by MAC address) in your router, and leave the individual cameras set to DHCP. In the past I've found that disabling DHCP in some cameras causes some of them to lose email functionality.

Thanks for the info.. I'll have to checkout the AP settings again, I read over them briefly when I first got the device and went with Extender mode since I literally needed it especially once we switched ISP's. I wanted the new Verizon device elsewhere but we got what we got.. it's in a great spot for WiFi, not so much for any hard-lined devices.
I actually decided to put the camera on the router/extender and it's been 100%, if I ever wanted to drop a hard-line it would have to come from this extender/router since it's right above the location pretty much. Had no issues so far been over 24hrs, fortunately the Nighthawk EX7000 broadcasts both 2.4 & 5Ghz... I simply selected the 2.4 network, connected perfectly.. so far no issues... if I notice any I can always put it back on the main modem. I am not sure what the issue was yesterday morning.. could have just been the area having issues.
The Verizon modem/router is the Verizon FiOS-G1100 I am not very familiar with their equipment, we recently switched a few months back as Comcast was too expensive, and quite terrible here TBH. But it broadcasts both 2.4/5Ghz... so connecting had no issues as it automatically picked up the network.
We get a lot of spikes randomly, living in the suburbs everyone has 1 or the other (Comcast vs Verizon). Fortunately the speeds are great.. but our neighbor we call the "hermit" must have an entire NOC in his house or something because he has so many devices that we get 100% signal from, sometimes our networks show less strength % than his... I read about changing channels/frequencies but need to further research that. We don't exactly live on top of one another, and nobody lives in the house next door, been for sale for over a year.
I noticed with the Static IP (which is working 100%) that I had to select TCP/IP: Ethernet Card, choose Static, under Ethernet Card I could not get it to work with "Wired Default" and had to select Wireless.... seems to be functioning great.
I still need to configure the settings, alarms, email, etc... I really do not need an alert each time something happens, otherwise I would be going nuts but I believe I can focus on a specific area of the camera like my truck where it could be useful.
A family member installed an iRing at the door and as nice as it is I don't have the app on my phone and never know when someone rings the dang doorbell, it did however deter 2 young kids we did not know from trying to get into our house once, they looked like thieves and walked up the steps.. the young man saw the camera and said something like "Crap Camera.. Wrong house!" as the girl with him literally tried to open our door, fortunately it was locked. Figured it was time to get some real cameras.
We have so much traffic on this street, more than ever with Covid-19, cars people walking by, it's always catching clips of people walking by which is very nice as we can see what the dog is barking at lol.
I really like this device, I am glad I got 2 more, one will be on the other side of the property and the other may go to a family member who's wanted one for awhile.
The only questions remaining I have are does this camera model have the capabilities for "people traffic" or counting statistics, it'd be nice to see how many people walk by as well as cars, somewhat busy street on a daily basis.
2nd question would be I was thinking about getting another 500GB SSD as I see an option to record directly to HD, but I'd prefer using the micro SD cards. I guess only time will tell how much the 64GB card can hold before it fills up, the I believe it has "Loop Recording" and simply Overwrites the oldest data?
Other than those 2 questions/concerns the device was great, really glad I caught them on sale... and they were shipped locally and I got them within 48hrs.
Re: New IPM-723B Working Great but a few issues...
Forgot to also ask about the sensitivity settings. I am still new and haven't really messed with them.
I notice it will take clips of cars on the street, each one that passes.. day and evening, I don't mind that.
It will pickup activity in the driveway and property up until the sidewalk, where it doesn't record people walking by my truck. I would like to set it so that it will record each time someone walks by the truck on the street.
It's odd that it picks up the cars coming from the completely opposite direction (obviously on the street), but not people walking on the sidewalk which is closer to the camera... there must be a setting I am missing or did not set.
It's very weird, but probably just some type of sensitivity setting I have not figured out yet.
