I am using vlc to just peek at my IP cameras when my dog barks. I am almost always near a computer, rarely near a window, so this works well for me.
My cameras are only on my LAN - I do not want them exposed outside, so I just pull up the stream manually.
In VLC, I do this: Media->open network stream->rtsp://viewer:[email protected]:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=1
This opens the sub stream as expected.
It is my understanding that Media->open network stream->rtsp://viewer:[email protected]:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0 should open the main stream. This fails. It looks like VLC buffers for a second, then nothing is displayed in VLC.
192.xxx.yyy.zzz is the LAN IP address of the camera; CameraPW is the camera password.
Any Idea what might be wrong with the main feed?
Anyway, I created a shortcut to VLC on my desktop with this target:
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\"vlc.exe "rtsp://viewer:[email protected]:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=1"
This way, I can just click on a shortcut and have a peek. Saves me going to the door every time a squirrel walks by or an acorn falls.
This works good, but only gets me the low resolution sub stream, which is OK, but sub-optimal.
When I try to open the main stream, with "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\"vlc.exe "rtsp://viewer:[email protected]:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0", it fails.
Same problem as above, I suspect.
Thanks!
IP8M-2496EW-V2 trouble streaming main stream to vlc at full resolution
Re: IP8M-2496EW-V2 trouble streaming main stream to vlc at full resolution
If I had to guess I thought it might have been an issue with Encoding size. I personally have never tried to use 4k camera in VLC. my 2,3,4 and 5 mp cameras work fine. So I moved my 4k camera from my NVR to my Switch and thought I would give it a try.
Well that isn't the issue. I was able to look at my 4k main stream without issue. Thought maybe it down streamed it so I took a snapshot and looked and sure enough it is 8mp at 3480x2160.
So the next guess would have to be Stream Quality? Maybe there is cable issue or maybe to many devices that make VLC time out? For my system my POE Switch is on the same Switch my computer is on. The total Cable length for my camera is less then 75 feet Camera is on 60ft of Cat6a and computer is on 14 feet of Cat5e.
Maybe try a different cable or a different port for the camera and try. Also I have my camera setup for 8192Bit and 22fps H.264 seeing it is older 4k camera. This leaves me with 1 last issue. IT might be an issue with your Encoding Mode? If your running H.265 it might not like it? These are just my guesses..
