At the moment I store all my footage to the onboard SD Card. It obviously over-writes when full.
Q1.
If I select FTP or NAS as the destination, and set it up accordingly, will the camera act similarly, over-write files on the device when it is full?
Ideally I want to get a 512GB USB Stick - and plug it into Router, and setup an FTP server and use it as the destination.
Q2.
Has anyone tried an SD card larger than 128gb in the camera? Did it work?
Thanks

Re: IP8M-2496EB Destination Storage Question
I have the 2496 cams as well - all with SD cards.
On Q2 ... I've only installed 128GB cards because the Manual stated that was the max supported capacity - yet I have not physically attempted a 256 or 512 larger SD card.

Re: IP8M-2496EB Destination Storage Question
Yeah I would be interested to try a 256gb or 512gb, I would be quite happy to write to SD card forever if it could take them, not wanting to run the risk though.
Is anyone able to answer Q1? That seems like the next logical solution, 512gb USB drives are quite reasonable.

Re: IP8M-2496EB Destination Storage Question
Are there no reps from Amcrest, who can answer this question? Given its a manufacturers forum i'd like to think there would be some answers.
Re: IP8M-2496EB Destination Storage Question
I can hear the groans and mutterings about pedantry but to set the record straight, Amcrest are resellers not manufacturers and it's a user forum which is hosted by them and not their first line of support
.
Having said that there are lots of very knowledgeable and experienced people here who will help if they can but asking a question doesn't guarantee an answer. Unfortunately I can't answer Q2 as I've never gone beyond a 32GB card.
Q1 - In my experience neither FTP or NAS will overwrite when full so it's essential to use the option in the camera setup to delete files after a set number of days.
The current situation being what it is I think the participation of Amcrest staffers is less likely and it's never been at a high level.

Re: IP8M-2496EB Destination Storage Question
One there are people out there that are adding hard drives that are 2 times the size that it Max size in manual however while they can work they will FORMAT your card at if they work that is they will format your card at the 128 and it would be a waste why risk it? Also there are some that have tried after the fact to add a larger HDD in the system and it failed so the person that was able to make it work had it formatted at a Reduced size already I am guessing and the NVR/DVR that took it only used that one partition... MAX SIZE is what is MAX in the Software running... NOt all are the same and just because these camera use Unix based software it is hard coded into the software what the max drive will be used...
Remember just because one person jumped off the Bridge and lived don't mean someone else should try it without knowing they could fail...
To Q1 that is a Tricky question.. While there are some cameras that are out there on the NEW FW that the users have said it deletes the footage after the set time in the camera... I will admit I did have one doing that on the 8-2019 FW if I had it set to record for 3 days then anything after that would be removed from the FTP server however as of the 2020 FW I just looked and have my system stated to delete anything over 3 days and I have 2 weeks of footage in there... In an FTP will it over write when full??? Well sadly this is something that could be maybe setup in the FTP server however there is no set size of recording when you FTP so if you had 6TB drive with 5 TB space left and you left for the month and if recorded at max Res and full time it would max out your drive a month or 2 and then FTP and computer would not be to happy with no space... I have many cameras and all going to FTP or most of them anyway and after a month I looked at my FTP it was at less then 100gig of space left and took me forever to clean out the server to free up space...
To a NAS I am not sure but I think you can have different ability on some Nas.. I think some you can setup with how much space you want to give to the NAS for Camera footage and it would then over write to make sure you didn't run out as long as your camear was setup to over write and not stop... This isn't going to be in all NAS setups but I have heard in some they have that ability.

Re: IP8M-2496EB Destination Storage Question
I am sorry, I have to answer a question w/a question: Would storing just snapshots (alarm triggered or timer based) in the SD card and record actual video footage elsewhere, like a Local HDD/NVR, FTP NAS or cloud storage?
Re: IP8M-2496EB Destination Storage Question
@RandiO Hello and Welcome to the Forum
So I am not sure I understand what your asking? can you do Snap Shots on the MSD card and record your footage 24/7 on another source?
As long as you setup your Motion Snapshot to go to your MSD you can have NVR/DVR or BI or ASP (PC-NVR) and other many other ways of recording even in the Destination area of the camera you can pick FTP, OR NAS if you wanted as well... Some of my cameras have many different Recording paths some are going to NVR and a DVR for alarm triggering and have the camera setup to record to MSD on motion and Snap shots to my FTP however over my NVR I have that same Camera FTP to another FTP server all motion from the NVR..
Just keep in mind each area is like a Connection so don't set your max connection low like 5 and have 4 things connecting and then 2 users try to connect because one of them will not be able to as the Max limit would be exceeded.

What I meant is that "Wouldn't using the microSD solely for snapshots (and recording elsewhere) be a better method?
