IP2M-841 POE Requirement

Post by t84a »

I'm adding a second IP2M-841 which requires me to switch from using the TP Link single injector to a switch. Pulling the initial line for the first camera was a b!tch so I'm going to cut into that run and install a POE switch and branch off that to 1 or more additional cameras. So what POE standard do these cameras use. The Amcrest site doesn't say. Do these use the 802.3af industry standard? Hopefully, someone will let me know soon as I'm ordering. Thanks

Hello t84a ,

Yes IP2M-841E is POE 802.3af standard. Not that the standard IP2M-841 cameras are not POE capable, only the ones with model ending in 'E'.

I'm confused. I have a new IP2M-841B camera. On the box it says it's POE 802.3af capable. But I see a claim in this forum that only the model E is POE capable. Is this POE capable or not?

Hello,

if it says 802.3af capable then its defenitely POE capable. But the model on the camera should have been IP2M-841EB
instead of IP2M-841B.

It definitely says 802.3af capable and it's definitely IP2m-841B not EB. Looks like Amcrest has a packaging problem.

Me too... I have a box that says POE, but the product refused to run POE. Its a IP2m-841B not a IP2M-841EB. Bought mine at Home Depot. Will Amcrest offer a working replacement? I ran a new cat5 run through the attic, drilled holes and stapled the wire. Even painted the exposed wire to match, all to find out the camera wont work over POE. I've tried both a cisco 802.3af switch and a passive POE injector. It doesnt work.

Try putting an injector at one end and this at the other.

I just looked at my box and can't find any reference to POE. Can you guys post a picture of your box?

I actually do have the picture of that. It was the only reason i bought the camera because i saw the poe networking and i just found out poe networking doesnt work.
