Changing camera channel assignment?

Post by Falc0n »

Has this problem been solved yet? I could find no updated reference on this ...

When setting up cameras on an NVR (NV4432E in my case) the NVR RANDOMLY assigns Channels to each camera. I want to change the Channels in order to make them sequential, especially in a View. No logical reason why this can’t be done. There is a drop down as if you could make a change, but it only lists the currently assigned channel. This should certainly be possible. The only reason I can think this isn’t possible is pure developer laziness.

One of the reasons I want this is to be able to easily re-arrange the DEFAULT order. When I attach a TV display to the HDMI port I get cameras unnecessarily spread out randomly over several pages of views. I’d hoped that this might be fixed in new firmware updates, but sadly see that none of the hardware I purchased last year have any updates (and after being forced to provide contact info in order to see firmware updates now). Amcrest surely does not appreciate its customers and is not interested in repeat sales or referrals.

I have the exact same desire. I was hoping there would be an answer on this thread, maybe by bumping it we can get some help with this.

Serious flaw in your firmware! I am left after 2 days working on this to my only option being climbing a ladder and moving the cameras around after install because your firmware won't allow them to be arranged on anything but a random order on the screen. Yes you can drag the small squared of the video display around on the screen but it doesn't stay that way, next screen change maneuver and they'll all be right back. I see this complaint was first brought up in 2015, so I assume if you haven't fixed it in 3 years, that it won't be addressed.

If every other security camera system being sold was not even worse than the Amcrest setup, I would send it back along with the other 3 mfgs I just returned. Pity that nothing better than this firmware is available for a system costing twice what other similar ones are selling for. I paid the extra cost for this NVR which supports Amcrest Surveillance Pro and I find that this software matched against the Internet Explorer access to the NVR, matched against the actual mouse and monitor access, that very few of the functions seem tied together and control of the unit is not possible from the remote, for example re-configuring the NVR remotely with either of these shows that the NVR does not respond to many of the commands issued remotely.

It's a really big mess, this system, so much so that I would recommend anyone using instead an old analog re-man version for a security setup, as they provided ease of use and a dependable remote interface. These new IP PoE set-ups are clearly "not ready for prime time". Problem is, however, the competition seems even worse. I'm now on my third mfg system trying to find one that actually works as advertised.

Note if you add additional cameras on a remote POE (Amcrest made) switch, the configuration gets even more complicated and ends up being only an option of automatic configuration. You also cannot program the internal switch on the NVR to allow your IP cameras to be accessed from your home network, which in effect isolates them.

If you still have the Amcrest devices, you could see if this helps with channel assignment.

You need to attach both the remote POE Switch and NVR to your router, and then add the cameras on the switch to the NVR. The POE Switch attached to a NVR port is not supported. Also, you can then access the switch attached cameras directly from the PC if required.

Hitting the same issue. Is there any plan to add such functionality?

Seems crazy this hasn't been fixed, It's to bad, because the product isn't bad just crap firmware and missing features and others that noone will use abound. Anyway, the reason I opened this old thread is I have a work around for you.

I was playing trying to get all my cameras in the right order on the screen and cussing like a sailor. I finally set all static IP, took all cameras OFF the NVR and put them on a POE router. THis also fixed and email attachment issue I was having. OKay, to the point, just do a manual add and type your IP and make sure there is not a camera on the D channel you want. This also overcomes the 8 channel issue becaus you now may select all 16 channels. Hope someone finds this usful, I registered just to save someone else the frustration... it's not a fix, but it works.

Delete all the cameras, then add them again in the order you want them displayed. Pure idiocy but that's the only way.

I found that if you manually add a new camera and duplicate one already in the list with a new channel, it will show up. Then erase the identical camera with the old channel number. This seems to change the channel assignment successfully. Hope this helps
