Amcrest IP2M-842EB Reset

Post by ju5t1n604 »

All - I purchased my camera used from amazon warehouse. I recently got the camera connected to my POE switch and it turns on, however, it still had settings from a previous owner. I've researched how to reset the unit but all I can find is information on contacting 2 exposed wires by the CAT and power lines. Those wires, whether snipped by the previous owner or not valid for my model, do not exist. I opened the camera up in an effort to find the wires but they do not exist anywhere inside. Are there pins on the board I can short to reset the unit or any other way?

Hello ju5t1n604 ,

Yes. You need to open the front cover of the camera with the IR LED board and inside of the main board, on the top left, you can find two brass ports. Take a wire and join the two brass ports together for 30 seconds. This will reset the camera.

Followup request, Melvin... I have the same issue but cannot see an obvious location of the two brass ports to perform the reset with in the camera. If you could elaborate slightly on this, it would help me immensely. I do see what could possibly be identified as the two ports on either side of a two-pin connector (with red/black wires). That looks right if the top of the camera is the area that has the sliding cover (opposite the label). TIA

I thought I read that if you removed the PoE ethernet cable coming from the PoE injector or PoE switch and plugged it back in that would reset the camera (A POR in other words). I could be wrong.

Our IP2M 842EB board does not look like the one shown by Melvin (see attachment), and a colleague changed (and forgot) the password and we're all stumped as to how to recover it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello drfonz ,

You can short the two brass ports (top right in your image) with a wire and it should reset it.

Quick confirmation followup. Yes, Melvin, my board is also like DrFonz and I also confirmed independently with Amcrest support that your are correct and shorting the two pins on the right side (per DrFonz' photo) does perform the reset. Still seems odd to me that there is no provision (anymore) to do this without having to actually access the camera's circuit board (but, what could go wrong there??!!... ;-)). Thanks for the help, very much appreciated.

I'm trying to reset the admin password on an IP4M-1025EW but I'm unable to find similar brass points. Any ideas?
I have another account with view only privileges but I want to change some configs and I forgot the admin password :( . Thanks!
