Amcrest Cloud settings supersede camera's local settings?

Post by stream41 »

Hi guys - I have a new IP4M-1025E that is capable of 2688x1520 resolution. I have it set as such in the camera's "local" settings (connecting directly to it over LAN) with very high quality settings. All was well until I added the camera to my Amcrest Cloud account. The only quality settings on the Cloud are 720p and 1080p, so of course I chose 1080p. I'm using motion detection, etc.

Now, every day or two, I check the camera's settings, and it's back down to 1080p with very low quality settings. Could my Cloud account's settings be superseding the camera's local settings? If so, how do I stop it?

Use of Amcrest Cloud does overwrite your camera settings. I'm not aware of a way to prevent Amcrest Cloud from overwriting your settings, other than not using it of course.

I was just perusing the forum to see if there had been any updates on this. I guess not. And Amcrest support still appears to be ignoring the issue in the forums...

Why sell a camera with 3 (my IP3M-943) or 4 megapixel video, advertise the cloud service with it, but not be able to use both features (high resolution and cloud recording) at the same time??? I understand not sending 3-4 Mp video to the cloud, but what about that lower quality sub stream stuff in the settings? Can’t the lower quality video be sent to the cloud?

Yeah, wow.. epic fail! I hadn't had any troubles but when I went in to check out my settings I found the quality setting was blank. Just taking a look at my options and I'm forced to choose between "standard" and "720P". This is on an 841 camera... and now suddenly I can't keep my local 1080P setting!?! Wow, just WOW. I've been having problems with my camera's not consistently uploading events to the cloud which was the reason I was looking in to the support posts. They need to fix this bug urgently or I'll be dropping the cloud service on my 3 cameras promptly. Why would I pay to automatically force my camera settings to a lower/deprecated setting than they're capable of. C'mon guys, sort this garbage out!!!

Yeah, I just got a 4K camera. The 3840x2160 setting keeps resetting to 1920x1080. I am finding that the 3080x2048 setting seems stable. I keep Surveillance running and redundantly recording on my hard drive at home. Well, if they don’t provide the services we want, we can just keep our money. You should be able to set up a VPN login into your home computer. View the camera from there. Then just do a periodic back up of the camera data to a cloud. I was more curious if the cable company would start whining about that data going over the net. Maybe all that data is the bottleneck.

I’m still playing with mine.

I have discovered the issue. The issue with my camera constantly rebooting is the Amcrest Cloud. Apparently the Amcrest Cloud sends out a reset to the camera periodically. It does not appear to be on any kind of schedule, it is almost like someone is forcing the reset out as sometimes it is once or twice a day. Sometimes it is multiple times an hour. What this means is the camera is not actually rebooting at all but simply has it's settings reset and it appears as it was a reboot. For example I can increase the resolution on my camera to above 1080P and at sometime after, it could be hours or it could be minutes the camera is set back by the Amcrest Cloud. Apparently this is occuring even if I make no changes on the camera settings.

The amcrest cloud seems to be capable of keeping up with the bandwidth requirements for the higher resolutions so my guess at this point is that Amcrest is limiting the video resolution due to file size. It would be really nice if Amcrest would offer higher resolutions on their cloud plan and stop resetting my camera. Even if the higher resolutions cost more money. At this point I am considering purchasing an NVR and forgoing the Amcrest cloud service, even though there are features of the Amcrest cloud service that I do like.

With this being said I also have noticed that it seems that the Amcrest cloud service goes down nearly every weekend. My guess is that Amcrest is performing some type of maintenance during the weekends. Just for Amcrest knowledge, the weekend is actually a critical time for this service for me as this is when most of the criminal activities take place in my neighborhood. Not as much during the week. Perhaps you need to find a way to offer HA for your cloud service.

I've been experimenting some yet. I disconnected the cable modem and changed the pw on the camera locally. I shut off the cloud and external access. It still reset during the day. Maybe it's my wifi.

I don't mind a drop out, but not resetting to my saved settings is unacceptable. Maybe save means something different in other countries or companies. It'll not bring up the saved settings after a power down and up. In America that is called crap.

Well, EVERY AMCREST brand higher res camera owner probably has the same problem. Their high priced cameras reset to low resolution.

I think if save really, really, meant save - "to keep and store up for future use" - Dictionary.com - that would solve the problem.

Until then, maybe a few bad reviews will go a long way.

hello, i found this post today because i have 3 IP8M-T2669EW-AI and they all have the same issue

how is this still an issue 5 years later ?

they work great for the price and the picture quality is good. i would not mind a decreased resolution when viewing from the cloud, but i record everything 24/7 locally, and i want that to be the highest quality.
