Today is 3/27/2018 and once again my camera stopped recording to the amcrest cloud. I have verified that the camera is accessible from the cloud app on and off my home network. Also the camera is recording to the internal microSD card. A reboot of the camera seemed to resolve the issue. There is either an issue with the camera that will require a firmware update, or there is an issue with the cloud platform.

I have discovered the issue. The issue with my camera constantly rebooting is the Amcrest Cloud. Apparently the Amcrest Cloud sends out a reset to the camera periodically. It does not appear to be on any kind of schedule, it is almost like someone is forcing the reset out as sometimes it is once or twice a day. Sometimes it is multiple times an hour. What this means is the camera is not actually rebooting at all but simply has it's settings reset and it appears as it was a reboot. For example I can increase the resolution on my camera to above 1080P and at sometime after, it could be hours or it could be minutes the camera is set back by the Amcrest Cloud. Apparently this is occuring even if I make no changes on the camera settings.

The amcrest cloud seems to be capable of keeping up with the bandwidth requirements for the higher resolutions so my guess at this point is that Amcrest is limiting the video resolution due to file size. It would be really nice if Amcrest would offer higher resolutions on their cloud plan and stop resetting my camera. Even if the higher resolutions cost more money. At this point I am considering purchasing an NVR and forgoing the Amcrest cloud service, even though there are features of the Amcrest cloud service that I do like.

With this being said I also have noticed that it seems that the Amcrest cloud service goes down nearly every weekend. My guess is that Amcrest is performing some type of maintenance during the weekends. Just for Amcrest knowledge, the weekend is actually a critical time for this service for me as this is when most of the criminal activities take place in my neighborhood. Not as much during the week. Perhaps you need to find a way to offer HA for your cloud service.

Apparently there is an issue with the Amcrest Cloud or the Amcrest cameras. I keep having to reboot my camera in order for the video to keep recording. I have been reading others stating that they are having the same issue. Clearly there seems to be an issue with the Amcrest cloud or the cameras. I also have a ring doorbell that never has this issue. I don't understand why Amcrest cannot get this right. Amcrest please fix this! My ring doorbell works fine and I am considering purchasing ring flood lights at this point.

There were two things that seemed to help.

1. Wired connection instead of wifi

2. The "reboot" appeared to be due to the fact that I had my camerea set to the highest resolutions and amcrest cloud continually reset the video to 1080P. Amcrest cloud now offers higher resolutions video. I still have the issue occasionally but not like it was before.

I now have a ring flood light. While I do someone like it I find the response time on it is horrible since it is WIFI only. For any camera I would recommend only using a wired camera.
