5MP or 8MP camera for Night Time
5MP or 8MP camera for Night Time
My 5MP cameras seems to work so much better at night time then my 8MP cameras, does everybody have this problem? I have very little lighting in my yard, have two 8MP and 2 5MP cameras installed, the 5MP are so much better. In the day time they all look the same, do most people stay with the 5MP for low lighting conditions? So happy with all these cameras in day time, night time not so good. I have played around with all the night time settings on the 8MB cameras with little success.
Re: 5MP or 8MP camera for Night Time
5mp and 2mp cameras have most times much better night time Pictures then most 8MP cameras because they require less light for filling the space to encode. Where some 8MP cameras will require a lot of light to produce the picture quality at night and this can cause Ghosting or an effect where the subject will just disappear from the screen. However day time picture quality 8mp over a 5mp or 2mp one can't compare..
Be Safe.

I have the IP8M-T2499EW-28MM now, just not happy with night vision. Thinking about moving to another location with better lighting. I see Amcrest has a new IP8M-T2599EW that is build a little different, It only has 98ft NightVisions compared to the other one which is 164ft of nightvision, wondering if this camera would have better results. Have you had a chance to see any pics of night time pics with this unit? Maybe if someone has this camera they can comment on the nightvision in low lighting. I hate to buy one and not like it and send it back. Amcrest cameras are outstanding in the daytime

Re: 5MP or 8MP camera for Night Time
I will do some searching around. I do have some friends that normally only see in Summer months that have some Amcrest hardware and at times they like to brag about things come summer time.. I will ask to see if any have this camera and if they do I will ask if I can get some Night footage. There are some people that have posted talking about them 2 cameras maybe they will see the Post and offer some night time data for your viewing. Sadly at this time I don't have any of my own to offer footage of..
Be Safe.

Re: 5MP or 8MP camera for Night Time
Before this thing is over I will have no hair. Not happy with my IP8M-T2499EW-28MM night time image, so I swap it out with a 5MB camera and night time is much better. I took the IP8M-T2499EW-28MM and wired it into my basement which is 60 long. I cant believe how good the picture is, the basement has all lights off. Picture is crystal clear at 60 feet, why doesn't this happen outside in the yard. Could I be getting ir refection back at the camera? I will set the camera outside tonight off the overhang and see what happens, I'm just amazed how good it works in basement with no lights and total darkness. Seems like I should get the same results from the basement outside too.
Re: 5MP or 8MP camera for Night Time
When you've put the camera back outside, perhaps post a screenshot of what you're seeing. A picture is worth a thousand words as they say
.
One of the biggest problems I've encountered with one of the cameras connected to my NVR was caused by glare from the wall to which the camera is attached. I eventually found the 'sweet spot' which meant turning the camera away from the wall and losing a very small part of the area that I wanted to cover.

Re: 5MP or 8MP camera for Night Time
Will do, hoping I can get a good night image out of the IP8M-T2499EW-28MM. If not will replace with a 5MB camera.
Re: 5MP or 8MP camera for Night Time
Be sure that there aren't any close objects to the camera that appear in the image. These objects will cast a glare causing night vision fog. The cameras need to be free and clear of any structures in order for the night vision to work properly.
Re: 5MP or 8MP camera for Night Time
Morning my friends
I temporary moved the camera out from overhang last night, Lot better picture now. I must be getting reflection off bottom of gutter, I just made a block to lower the camera down 1 1/2 inches, hope this will be enough. If not I might have to change to different camera style, I really like the Turret style because you hardly now it there. Not sure how to post pictures, all my snapshots seems to be over 1mb.I think I will still some reflection because of the snow on ground, might have to angle camera higher and lose some area. If so I can add another camera to monitor the area I'm loosing. Their is a lot of fine tuning to make these work good at night. I have got so much help here and learned a lot, for that I want to Thank everyone.
