Cameras Taking Unwanted Snapshots When Video Detect > Zone Set Window is Open

Post by LordCambo »

I have four IP2M-841B and one IPM-751B cameras which have (and continue to) worked great for years.

I noticed recently while using Amcrest Surveillance Pro, while I have the Device CFG > Event > Video Detect > Zone Set window open the camera is sending shapshots to my PC hard drive at C > Program Files > Amcrest Surveillance Pro > Amcrest Survaillance Pro.

I did not have settings set to ever send snapshots anywhere. These cams only save motion files to the micro SD card in the cameras. It looks like it is sending motion snapshots, but only when I open the Zone Set window. If there is a lot of motion, like moving trees in wind, a snapshot is coming over every second. If I close the Zone Set window, the snapshots stop.

I browsed around, didn't see snapshot or any other setting ticked to do this, so where do I turn this off?

So you will want to double check that your camera is setup right. Some devices by default have full time video and snapshot setup.. So I don't remember what ones do what. i know that all my DVR/NVRs for sure are setup out of the box that way. You will want to look under your Schedule under your Storage. Then change all your full time recording to motion if you only want motion or alarms. There is also a Tab there for Snapshots make sure all days are setup for motion and alarms as I have setup in my picture below.. Only thing I can think of outside of Manual recording settings and not setup for auto.. If you pick manual it will record and snapshot full time..

Thank you for the reply.

I went under Schedule > Storage and changed the Record Schedule to MD only for all days. Under the Snapshot Schedule tab I turned off all settings........and the problem still persists.

Oddly, when I go to any camera, even when there is no motion, it is recording a snapshot to my PC every second only while I have the Zone Set window open.

That is strange for sure. Have a lot of cameras and don't have that issue with any of them. I would make a ticket maybe Amcrest has solution.

Yes, it is strange. When that Video Detect > Zone Set window open the camera is sending a snapshot every second and does not stop unless I close that window!

I submitted an inquiry to Amcrest as you suggested...

Amcrest support had me reset a camera. The problem still exists.

Amcrest support also had me uninstall/reinstall Amcrest Surveillance Pro. The problem still exists.

??

I'm thinking it's just one basic setting somewhere in the software that needs to be turned off.

Any suggestions?

Hate to say it but seems to be a software bug..

I will report to Amcrest as well tomorrow along with others reporting that Smart home notices are no longer working.. I am just a normal every day person when it comes to talking with Amcrest about support issues but I will try my best.. Maybe one of the contacts that I have with support has ASP installed on a local computer and they can confirm the issue. Because I did just as you mentioned in your first post and sure enough every device I looked at with my ASP be it cameras new or old that I have and my recorders going to the Grid post a snapshot even on my shed camera that has no current motion so it wasn't related to even being windy it was just having the Grid up leaves an image..

Thank you very much for the reply and for trying to get a resolution with Amcrest.

It is a real problem because if this is happening to everyone using the software, anytime the user just has that window open looking at the Zone Set window images are automatically being saved about once a second to their hard drive!

I think I just happened to browse that C > Program Files > Amcrest Surveillance Pro > Amcrest Survaillance Pro folder and saw thousands of images, deleted them, got curious and left it open while I used the software and then saw them being added live every second when the Zone Set window was open (for any camera).

Hopefully we can get a resolution. I wonder how many people out there unknowingly have thousands of unwanted images on their hard drive?!?!

Any luck with Amcrest?

I've traded a few emails and tried a fix suggestions they've offered, but the problem remains unresolved.

To be honest are you using ASP to view your cameras? It seems only time I have issues with Time now is if I use ASP.. For the last few months I have just let them be off in time. Now I have setup to my NVR and setup my NVR to use NTP and all the times are correct. They will stay this way as long as I don't use ASP. As soon as I do they will all be 1 hour off..
