Lost security screw
Lost security screw
Weii I installed my new Amcrest doorbell last week and it seems to be working just fine. I didn't have much room to work while installing it, and accidentally dropped the security screw. I looked forever for it, but could not find it. I contacted Amcrest and after exchanging several emails they want me ro RMA the doorbell. Does this make any sense? Wouldn't it be cheaper for them & easier on me to just send me a screw? Guess I'll just leave it on with a standard screw. I'm not taking it down again for that.
Re: Lost security screw
of course it's absurd to RMA the doorbell just to replace a lost security screw. Those Torx "tamper-resistant" screws can be removed with a small flat head screwdriver, so not all that secure. Anyone intent on stealing your doorbell will likely prybar it off with brute force or carry an assortment of drive bits. In any case, you can try taking the small philips screw that you do have, along with the Torx driver to a hardware store to match it up with a Torx security screw of the same size.
If it is stolen, I wonder if Amcrest can be notified to flag the serial number as stolen and prevent it from being connected? Ring and Nest have a free replacement program if the doorbell is stolen, but I don't think Amcrest does.

Re: Lost security screw
Well turns out all they wanted me to do was to fill out the rma online & tell them all I needed was the security screw. Not as bad as at at first imagined. Screw is supposed to be shipped now.
